November 13, 2014 – Stony Rapids, Saskatchewan – Transport Canada
Rob Clarke, Member of Parliament for Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River, on behalf of the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced that the Government of Canada is investing $7,405,840 over two years, to enhance safety at the Stony Rapids Airport.
Funding will pay for the rehabilitation of Runway 06-24, Taxiway A and airfield electrical systems, along with runway drainage improvements. These projects will ensure continued safe airport operations for flight crews, passengers, employees, medical evacuations, and fire fighting operations.
Funding is provided through Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).
The Government of Saskatchewan is investing an additional $3 million to expand the existing apron at the airport and develop a new access road to the community.
