MP Scott Armstrong announces Government of Canada support for the Stewiacke Monument

Scott Armstrong, Member of Parliament for Cumberland–Colchester–Musquodoboit, today announced Government of Canada support for the restoration of the Stewiacke Monument, which honours the sacrifices and service of Canadian Veterans. MP Armstrong made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs.

Organized by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 70 and the Town of Stewiacke, the restoration work included repairs to the base of the monument, as well as the addition of signage and lighting. A ramp was also added to the monument to increase accessibility for those who wish to pay tribute to Veterans.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 70 and the Town of Stewiacke are receiving $12,952, through Veterans Affairs Canada’s Cenotaph/Monument Restoration Program, for the restoration of the Stewiacke Monument.
To date, the Government of Canada has approved almost $4.5 million, through the Cenotaph/Monument Restoration Program, to ensure that cenotaphs and monuments to Canada's Veterans and war dead are preserved.
Across the country, there are more than 6,000 local cenotaphs and monuments dedicated to Canada’s war dead and Veterans.
