As Minister of Health, I am pleased to acknowledge Family Doctor Week in Canada as our opportunity to recognize the vital role family physicians play in the lives of Canadians.
The relationship between a patient and their family doctor is perhaps the most trusted in healthcare. Family physicians are often the first contact between Canadians and the medical system.
This, the 10th anniversary of Family Doctor Week, also provides Canadians with an opportunity to appreciate family physicians for the important work they do in maintaining and improving the health of Canadians across the country.
As the respected voice of family medicine in Canada, the College of Family Physicians of Canada upholds the principles of quality patient-centred care and promotes high standards of medical education and care in family practice. The organization continues to champion improved primary care for a more efficient and effective healthcare system.
Our Government recognizes the invaluable impact family doctors have on sustaining our healthcare system now and for generations to come.
I invite all Canadians to join me in honouring our family doctors and thanking them for their dedication to making Canadians among the healthiest people in the world.
