Japanese gaming firm gumi Inc. opens office in Vancouver
November 6, 2014 - Ottawa, Ontario - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, today congratulated Japan’s gumi Inc., a digital media firm, on opening an office in Vancouver, its first in Canada. Once again, Canada’s welcoming, low-tax business environment and skilled work force have attracted a job-creating investment to Canada.
Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service played a key role in supporting and encouraging gumi Inc.’s investment in Canada. The company is expected to create 20 new jobs at its new office in Vancouver.
The announcement coincides with Minister Fast’s upcoming trade mission to Tokyo on November 12 and 13, which is designed to further enhance the strong trade and investment ties between the two countries. It will be Minister Fast’s fourth trade mission to Japan.
British Columbia is a growing hub of cutting-edge digital media expertise, and Canada and Japan are recognized as huge players in the global video-game development market, both ranking among the top three in the world.
The Government of Canada is committed to creating the conditions and attracting the type of investment that will lead to more high-paying jobs, foster new innovation and creativity, and further stimulate productivity and economic growth in Canada.
Japan has been identified as a priority market for Canada, and information and communications technology is a priority sector under the recently released Global Markets Action Plan, Canada’s blueprint for creating jobs and opportunities through trade.
