For Immediate Release
November 7, 2014 – Gatineau, Que. – Public Works and Government Services Canada
On November 7, 2014, following a fair, open and transparent competitive process, Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) awarded Brookfield Johnson Controls Canada LP, of Markham, Ontario, six contracts for the delivery of diverse real property services on behalf of the Government of Canada, including the management of approximately 3,800 government buildings, facilities and land across Canada (8 million m2).
Through these contracts, the government expects to save at least $20 million a year, with additional efficiencies anticipated by the increased number of buildings covered by the contracts. Based on past contracts, the government has saved some $700 million since it began using the private sector to deliver real property services across the country.
Outsourcing real property services to the private sector represents best value to Canadians and results in opportunities for local and regional businesses since about 50 per cent of the total value of these contracts will be subcontracted. As a result, hundreds of small and medium enterprises across the country will have access to the work through thousands of competitive subcontracting opportunities. The contractor is required to engage subcontractors through fair, open, transparent and competitive processes.
