November 14, 2014 - St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador
Senator David Wells met with the crew of the CCGS Terry Fox earlier today to welcome them home after their 2014 Arctic mission. This year the CCGS Terry Fox visited the North Pole before returning to St. John’s where it brought back the two Canadian Hydrographic Services multibeam sonar-equipped survey launches. The data collected was used to produce three-dimensional images of HMS Erebus, which were used by marine archeologists to confirm the identification of the wreck. The Canadian Coast Guard has a long history of supporting scientific expeditions, leading to advances in marine safety, environmental research and marine archeology.
