OTTAWA – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls and Minister of National Defence, issued the following statement today:
“I am pleased to welcome to Ottawa the six Canadian Armed Forces members and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer chosen to participate in the annual Remembrance Day Sentry Program. These courageous men and women are on guard every day as part of their duty to defend and protect Canada and, on November 11th, they will represent all men and women in uniform as sentries at the National War Memorial. With the recent deaths of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and Corporal Nathan Cirillo, this watch is particularly meaningful and poignant. These sentries will stand with pride and respect in solemn camaraderie for all those who have fallen in service to Canada.
“The Remembrance Day Sentry Program honours service men and women for the tireless effort they put towards performing their duties, as well as for their continuing commitment to serving their communities. These members work hard every day, with the goal of protecting our nation and keeping Canadians safe. Their service to Canada has been impeccable throughout their careers, and they are truly deserving of our gratitude and sincere appreciation today, and every day.”
