OTTAWA - Vice-Admiral Mark Norman, Commander Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), issued the following statement today in honour of the Navy League of Canada’s Navy Appreciation Day 2014, taking place on Parliament Hill:
“This is an important day for the RCN, as Canada’s parliamentarians, the maritime education sector, and the maritime defence industry come together to celebrate our sailors and their contributions to Canada at home and abroad. Together we speak with one voice, in recognition and support of the RCN.”
“Today the Navy League honours all our sailors for their professionalism and dedication by recognizing six members of the RCN on Parliament Hill, for their acts of heroism and exceptional achievement of their duties in service to Canada. Thanks to the efforts of the Navy League of Canada, this is also an opportunity for our elected representatives to learn more about the achievements of our Navy’s most important resource: its people.”
“The Royal Canadian Navy fulfills its commitment to Canadians by demonstrating excellence at sea on a daily basis, while successfully negotiating through a period of modernization. We are able to achieve this important balance thanks to our people who, as always, remain “ready, aye, ready” when the nation calls upon us to do so.”
“I personally invite everyone to join me in thanking our sailors, whose contributions and sacrifices have benefitted the whole nation.”
