November 14, 2014 – Ajax, Ontario – Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario)

Chris Alexander, Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister and Member of Parliament for Ajax–Pickering, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), provided the opening keynote address at the 2014 Durham Economic Prosperity Conference in Ajax.

Minister Alexander highlighted FedDev Ontario's continued contributions and initiatives in the Durham Region and across southern Ontario, stressed the growing importance of industry clusters, and celebrated the collaboration of business, government and research institutions.

The bi-annual Durham Economic Prosperity Conference was introduced in 2006 and is a partnership between the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and the Region of Durham Economic Development Office.
FedDev Ontario has invested more than $28 million in 59 projects in Durham Region which are projected to leverage $32.5 million.
Since its creation in August 2009, FedDev Ontario has invested more than $1.2 billion, resulting in partnerships with more than 5,300 organizations and more than $1.5 billion in additional leveraged investments from almost exclusively non-government sources to support businesses, organizations and communities in southern Ontario.
