December 2, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement concerning the recent elections in Moldova:
“Canada welcomes last Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Moldova. The peaceful, well organized elections are a testament to the dedicated work of Moldovans to build a democratic society and political system based on the values of democracy and the rule of law.
“Canada is pleased to have supported international observation efforts during Moldova’s parliamentary elections, which included 20 Canadian observers participating in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe [OSCE] Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights mission and three Canadian parliamentarians participating in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly mission.
“Once the full results have been officially confirmed, the pressing task before Moldova’s newly elected representatives is the formation of a new government. These parliamentarians will devote the next years to strengthening the important achievements the country has made.”
