December 31, 2014 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today released the following statement:
“Canada deeply regrets the decision of the Government of Sudan to expel from the country the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator, and the United Nations Development Programme Country Director.
“The sudden and unexplained expulsions of senior UN officials carrying out their assigned duties only threatens to harm the Sudanese people by disrupting the delivery of humanitarian assistance at a time when millions of people are in need.
“Canada calls on the Government of Sudan to reverse its decision and cooperate with UN missions and agencies in the country, for the good of the Sudanese people.”
