Project made possible thanks to the federal Gas Tax Fund
December 15, 2014 – Victoriaville, Quebec – Infrastructure Canada
The Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Denis Lebel, and Quebec's Minister of Forests, Wildlife and Parks, Minister responsible for the Centre-du-Québec region, and Member of the National Assembly for Lotbinière-Frontenac, Laurent Lessard, on behalf of Quebec's Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Pierre Moreau, joined the residents of Victoriaville today to celebrate the completion of Achille-Gagnon's wastewater treatment plant.
This work was made possible thanks to joint funding from the federal and provincial governments under the federal Gas Tax Fund and the Government of Quebec's contribution. The project will allow the municipality to meet the highest standards of performance for wastewater treatment for many years to come.
The federal Gas Tax Fund provides long-term, stable and predictable funding to help Canadian municipalities build and revitalize their local infrastructure while creating jobs and promoting long-term prosperity. The funding has been extended and the amount allocated has doubled, increasing from $1 billion to $2 billion per year. It has also been indexed at 2% per year and legislated as a permanent source of federal infrastructure funding for municipalities.
"I am very pleased to be participating in this event today to highlight the completion of upgrades to the Achille-Gagnon's wastewater treatment plant. Thanks to these improvements, the City of Victoriaville will be able to ensure this vital service meets current standards. By reducing the quantity and improving the quality of treated wastewater, the project will not only enhance public services, but help protect the environment as well."
