Ottawa–His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will attend the funeral of Mr. Jean Béliveau. The service will take place at the Mary Queen of the World Cathedral, in Montréal, on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at 2 p.m.
"Over the past few days, Canadians have demonstrated the tremendous respect with which they regarded Jean Béliveau, a true hockey legend. This great Canadian, who was promoted to Companion of the Order of Canada in 1998, was loved and admired by all. A generous and honourable man, he inspired everyone around him to excel. For this reason, I feel it is important to pay tribute to him one last time, alongside his family and loved ones," said the Governor General.
