Adrian Burns appointed Chairperson

The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Adrian Burns as Chairperson of the National Arts Centre (NAC) Board of Trustees for a term of four years, effective December 11, 2014.

Quick Facts

Ms. Burns has been Acting Chair of the NAC Board of Trustees since July 2014. She was appointed Vice-Chair in May 2013 and has served on the board in different roles since 2002. In addition to her role as Vice-Chair, she is also Chair of the Human Resources Committee.
She possesses multi-faceted professional experience that she acquired in an array of different fields: business, Canadian broadcasting and the arts, education, corporate and public governance, and community involvement. She has held numerous senior leadership positions, notably as Director and Executive Committee Member of Shaw Communications.
Ms. Burns is the recipient of a number of distinguished awards and honours, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
The National Arts Centre is Canada’s only multidisciplinary, bilingual performing arts centre. Opened in 1969 as a centennial project and designated a national historic site in 2006, the NAC welcomes more than 1.2 million visitors each year.
The Government of Canada is investing in the revitalization of the NAC. Situated in the heart of the nation’s capital, the renewed NAC will include improved performance spaces, public areas for education and events, full accessibility for people with mobility challenges, and a magnificent glass atrium and entrance.
