Today, the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, attended an afternoon ceremony on behalf of the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, to celebrate Canada’s longstanding support of ICAO and Canada’s important role as Host Country of ICAO.
This event is part of a week-long celebration to commemorate the 70<sup>th</sup> anniversary of the signing of the Chicago Convention on December 7, 1944 and the establishment of ICAO. On the occasion of this important anniversary, Parliamentary Secretary Deepak Obhrai delivered a statement in the House of Commons in the presence of senior ICAO officials earlier today to recognize the milestone.
In attendance at the ICAO ceremony were Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, President of the ICAO Council; Mr. Raymond Benjamin, Secretary General of ICAO; Madame Christine St-Pierre, Quebec Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie; and Mr. Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montreal.
