Halton Hills Local Roads Improvements Complete
December 16, 2014 – Halton Hills, Ontario – Infrastructure Canada
Residents of the Town of Halton Hills now enjoy smoother and safer rides on two local roads thanks to contributions from the federal Gas Tax Fund. Representatives gathered today to celebrate the completion of resurfacing work on Fourth Line and 17 Side Road which will help the community meet its high-priority infrastructure needs.
In total, 5.5 kilometres of roadway was resurfaced and 15,000 tonnes of asphalt placed on the two roads. Fourth Line's surface was replaced with a new, more permanent, pavement material to accommodate a significant increase in traffic volume while 17 Side Road was resurfaced with a wider shoulder to incorporate future bike lanes to make cycling safer for rides.
Investments through the federal Gas Tax Fund in essential infrastructure used every day, such as Fourth Line and 17 Side Road, improve the quality of life for residents and contribute to the sustainability of communities and regions. These improvements will increase the functional lifespan of two well-travelled local roads, while promoting active transportation and fostering local economic growth.
"The federal government is providing municipalities with infrastructure funding to rehabilitate local roads and streets. These road improvements, made possible through the federal Gas Tax Fund, are an example of how the federal government is delivering for local communities, while at the same time creating jobs and economic growth. The federal government, working with the Town of Halton Hills, will continue to fund these infrastructure improvements through the federal Gas Tax Fund."
