A FedNor investment of $1 million will enable the City of North Bay to upgrade the Memorial Gardens, transforming the building into a state-of-the-art, multi-use facility that will help attract and host provincial, national, and international business, entertainment and tourism-related events such as conventions, conferences, and trade shows. Specifically, the funding will be used to purchase concert equipment, removable seating, staging, and lighting, install a new video control board and camera equipment, expand parking and upgrade the building's electrical system.
This not-for-profit organization will receive FedNor funding of $74,253 to deliver two youth job strategy programs in the Nipissing and Parry Sound regions. The first program, entitled Starter Company, will provide up to 54 youths with 12 weeks of entrepreneurship training, including business planning and skills development. The second initiative, entitled High School Entrepreneurship Outreach Program, will help build entrepreneurship awareness by offering workshops and apprenticeship activities to students from 15 area high schools.
A FedNor investment of $31,500 will enable this not-for-profit organization to hire a youth intern for a one-year period. While on the job, the intern will work on a variety of projects to connect Nipissing with Ontario's growing cycling programs. Since its inception, FedNor has helped more than 1450 young graduates obtain that crucial first job experience in Northern Ontario, while providing countless local organizations with access to a qualified and talented workforce.
