General Tom Lawson, Canada’s Chief of the Defence, is proud to name Major-General (Retired) Richard Rohmer, OC, CMM, DFC, O.Ont., KStJ, CD, OL, QC, BA, LLB, JD, LLD, Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur, as the Honorary Advisor to the Chief of the Defence Staff.
The position of Honorary Advisor to the Chief of the Defence Staff was created to recognize MGen (Ret’d) Rohmer’s contributions to the Canadian Armed Forces, and the unique advice and guidance that he provides to the Chief of the Defence Staff, drawing from his wealth of experience in service to Canada.
“For me, this unique appointment as Honorary Advisor to the Chief of the Defence Staff is an unexpected gift. It is an intellectual yet operational treasure that brings me back into the fold of The Royal Canadian Air Force, the institution that has shaped my life from the day in January 1942, my eighteenth birthday, that I joined the RCAF as an Aircraftsman Second Class. It gives me the opportunity to possibly influence the course of events that are being contemplated by the able leader of Canada's multi-tasked Armed Forces. Having been the leader once upon a time of Canada's military Reserves being Navy, Army, Air Force, I bring a real experience of dealing with all three, just as the CDS must do. If and when called on to give advice to him, or when I give it whether asked for or not, I will do my utmost to give my best, always.”
