January 28, 2015 - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs José Antonio Meade will travel to Boston, Massachusetts, later this week to attend the North American Foreign Ministers Meeting (NAFMM) hosted by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
The ministers will discuss global and regional issues, including security challenges and the competitiveness of North America.
"Economic growth remains the top priority for our government," said Baird. "In a world facing serious economic and security challenges, it is important we work in concert with our closest allies, which is why this meeting with two of our greatest partners comes at an opportune time."
Baird, along with his counterparts and North American business leaders, has been invited to a lunch hosted by Gary Doer, Canada's Ambassador to the United States.
"Canada, Mexico and the United States have a unique relationship, unlike any other partners in the world today," said Baird. "To solidify a prosperous and secure future for our continent, we must leverage the potential in all of our peoples. Forums like this allow us the opportunity to review where our relationship has come from and find new ways to take it to the next level."
The three ministers will address the media on Saturday, January 31, 2015. A media advisory with details on the event will be published later this week.
