January 13, 2015 – Barrie, Ontario – Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario)
FedDev Ontario Minister Gary Goodyear and North Simcoe MP Bruce Stanton announced today an investment of up to $4,217,500 that will enable Wolf Steel Ltd to expand its manufacturing capacity and create new jobs in Barrie.
The Government of Canada's repayable contribution, through the Investing in Business Growth and Productivity initiative, is aimed at helping established businesses to expand their operations, invest in productivity improvements and compete globally.
Wolf Steel, founded in 1976, manufactures the Napoleon brand of wood and gas fireplaces, barbecue grills, heating and cooling products and outdoor living products. The company's expansion project includes: launching and manufacturing air conditioning products; expanding the existing line of heating and ventilation products; upgrading its four manufacturing facilities in Barrie to make them more energy and cost-efficient; and implementing information technology upgrades.
These initiatives will help the company to enhance productivity, diversify its products and strengthen its market appeal, giving it a global competitive edge.
Wolf Steel's increased production will also positively impact local and regional materials suppliers.
The announcement was followed by a site visit and roundtable discussion at the Lakehead University's Orillia campus. Minister Goodyear and MP Bruce Stanton met with industry leaders to discuss opportunities for growth for businesses and manufacturers in Orillia and surrounding areas.
