Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, held a video conference meeting with provincial and territorial ministers of labour. The video conference follows up on a commitment made by the Minister to deepen intergovernmental engagement by holding additional meetings over the calendar year.
The Minister and her counterparts focussed their discussion on the protection of young workers. They exchanged best practices on raising awareness of young worker injury prevention, discussed the current state of unpaid interns in various jurisdictions and were informed of recent developments regarding technical reviews of the International Labour Organization’s Convention 138 on Minimum Age and the Protocol on Forced Labour.
