The 61st edition of the Québec Winter Carnival takes place January 30 to February 15, 2015. The National Battlefields Commission invites everyone to stop by the Plains of Abraham Museum, just steps from Bonhomme’s great big open-air playground. Visit the Traces exhibition, head out on snowshoes with a friendly guide from yesteryear, or enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or skating on the Plains. Show your Carnival pass for discounts on some activities (others are free) and equipment rentals.
Highlights
Take a guided old-time snowshoe tour. History buffs and winter activity fans will don tuques, mittens, arrowhead sashes, and traditional snowshoes and join a 20th century snowshoer for a lamp-lit stroll through the Plains. An original look back at the history of winter sports and recreation. Snowshoes, arrowhead sashes, lanterns, and hot chocolate included!
January 31 and February 7 at 7 p.m (in French only), February 14 at 2 p.m. $17/age 13–64, $15/age 65 and over. $2 off with Carnival pass.
The Snowshoer Went A Courtin’, a new theme visit available for Valentine’s Day, spins tales of romance every step of the way with stories of amorous intrigue from bygone days. Equipment and hot chocolate included.

- Skiing, snowshoeing, and skating
Visitors and sports enthusiasts enjoy free access to walking, cross-country ski, and snowshoeing trails and the ice rink on the Plains of Abraham. There’s a waxing room and 11.1 km of groomed trails for beginning and intermediate skiers (classic style, no skating). A groomed, 3.8 km loop along Cape Diamond is available for snowshoeing, along with 5.6 km of winter walking trails. Two heated shelters are available: the Pavilion near the Edwin-Bélanger Bandstand and, east of the Armoury, the Plains of Abraham Museum, which also has cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals for adults and children. The skaters’ chalet also rents equipment.
Cross-country ski rentals: $10 to $25, snowshoe rentals: $7 to $15, skate rentals: starting at $8. $2 off cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals with Carnival pass during the Carnival.
Traces exhibition presents an overview of what life was like under the French and English regimes. Two dig sites reveal their secrets, a 17th century civilian site (Des Braves Park) and a 19th century military site (blockhouse). Admire artifacts illustrating different facets of daily life.

The multiplatform application features almost 200 points of interest (in some thirty categories) via an interactive map of the park. A handy, user-friendly new tool for getting around the park or navigating it remotely and discovering the many attractions, rich history, and amenities of Canada’s first national historic park.
