The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that five projects in the Domaine-du-Roy Regional County Municipality (RCM) have been granted funding for the renovation and improvement of community halls.

Municipality of Saint-François-de-Sales
Non-repayable contribution of $9,241 on a total investment of $18,482 A municipality with just over 650 residents, Saint-François-de-Sales owns the only local community hall available to citizens for special activities, shows, evening events and family reunions.
The 250-person capacity hall, built in 1986, is accessible to the general public and to volunteer organizations within the municipality.
This asset plays a key role in local community life. The financial assistance granted to the municipality enabled it to carry out renovations on the hall, including replacing a door, laying new floor covering and repairing the cold storage room.
Municipality of Sainte-Hedwidge
Non-repayable contribution of $14,300 on a total investment of $28,600 The municipality of Sainte-Hedwidge, which has a population of nearly 900 residents, owns a rectory with a community hall open to citizens for recreational activities and family reunions. However, the size and outdatedness of this hall made it no longer adequate to meet the needs of the local population.
The funding allowed the municipality to renovate and expand the community hall, thereby increasing its capacity, its rate of use and the overall quality of the building. The work included repairing the roof of the old rectory annex housing the hall, demolishing interior walls, installing a reinforcement beam and renovating the restrooms to make them more accessible and functional.
Located in a heritage building, this community hall plays a central role in local community life. Execution of the project was essential to keeping the building in a good state of repair.
Parish Municipality of La Doré
Non-repayable contribution of $33,500 on a total investment of $67,000. Situated at the western extremity of Lac-Saint-Jean, La Doré, a parish municipality with nearly 1,500 inhabitants, is the last rest stop before the Ashuapmushuan Wildlife Reserve. The municipality has a community centre with a 350-person capacity that serves as a meeting place for various volunteer groups and a venue for community activities and intergenerational gatherings.
The building, erected in 1975, consumes substantial energy due to its obsolete heating system. The funding will be used to renovate and paint the community hall in order to update it and make it more energy efficient.
Municipality of Chambord
Non-repayable contribution of $39,784 on a total investment of $79,567. The municipality of Chambord has a large 290-person capacity community hall it makes available to its more than 1,800 residents for special events, family reunions and celebrations, vaccination clinics and the activities of various community organizations.
The municipality is undertaking work to renovate and upgrade its community hall in order to preserve the condition and increase the use of this key hub of local community life.
The contribution will serve to finance the installation of a retractable dividing wall in the hall, the replacement of floor covering and certain windows in the entranceway, the addition of storage areas, the refurbishment of service doors and emergency exits and general painting work. Installing the dividing wall will allow the large hall to be separated into two smaller rooms to better meet the needs of users and accommodate a greater number of people overall.
Club Tobo-Ski Inc.
Non-repayable contribution of $48,198 on a total investment of $96,396. Club Tobo-Ski Inc. is a non-profit organization that operates a recreation centre used for a wide variety of activities, including downhill skiing, tubing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in winter and mountain biking and tree-top adventure courses in summer.
As the building’s only tenant and operator by virtue of an agreement with the Municipality of Saint-Félicien, the club has meeting halls capable of accommodating close to 300 people that it makes available for community use. These serve for public meetings, family events, receptions, sporting competitions and cultural, community and other activities organized by citizens and local organizations.
The aim of the project, which is being funded by CED and the Municipality of Saint-Félicien, is to renovate the club’s community halls used by the public. This work, which will involve replacing doors and windows, installing an air conditioning system, doing plastering, painting and the floors and building a terrace, will help improve the building’s condition and ensure better services to its many users.
