Heyfield Memorial United Church in Heart’s Content to be transformed into community arts centre

The Heart’s Content Mizzen Heritage Society Inc. will renovate the Heyfield Memorial United Church into a community arts centre, thanks in part to funding from the Government of Canada. The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), today announced more than $153,000 for the Heart’s Content Mizzen Heritage Society Inc. to renovate and restore the local heritage structure.
Once completed, the renovated and restored facility will have a 150 seat performance area with art exhibit space, a workshop area and a social room, while maintaining the historical integrity of the building. The newly restored centre will provide cultural activities and events such as dinner theatre, coffee house events, rug hooking and quilting workshops, musical events and storytelling.
The initiative will enhance tourism development in the region by attracting more visitors to the area, and providing experiences that focus on Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich history and culture. Funding from the Government of Canada, though ACOA, will support building renovations and a product development plan.
