February 7, 2015 – Val Saint-Côme, Quebec – Department of Canadian Heritage
The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), announced that the Government of Canada has provided $115,000 to the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association (CFSA) through Sport Canada’s Hosting Program to support the International Ski Federation (FIS) Freestyle Ski World Cup in Val Saint-Côme on February 7, 2015.
“We are pleased to support the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association in hosting the 2015 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup. From the outstanding results we witnessed from our freestyle team last winter at the Olympic Games in Sochi and their continued success this year, we know that our Canadian athletes really benefit and appreciate the opportunity to compete against the world’s best right here at home. During the Year of Sport in Canada, we celebrate sport and our athletes and the role they play in helping define Canada as a true sporting nation.”
—The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport)
“The FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup at Val Saint-Côme is the first opportunity since the Sochi Olympic Games for our mogul skiers to compete in Quebec and in front of a true home crowd. Olympic medallists Justine Dufour-Lapointe, Chloé Dufour-Lapointe and Mikaël Kingsbury are sporting heroes to Quebecers and Canadians. The financial support provided by the Government of Canada is critical for hosting this event. The World Cups are an important component of our CFSA high performance program and provide great opportunities for Canadians to compete in Canada, promote the sport of freestyle skiing and showcase the Quebec ski industry.”
