Tennis Canada receives funding to host world-class tennis in Québec City

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, on behalf of the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), announced that the Government of Canada has provided $50,000 to Tennis Canada, through Sport Canada’s Hosting Program, to support the hosting of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas, World Group First Round matches between Canada and the top-ranked Czech Republic. The event will take place in Québec City on February 7 and 8, 2015.

International tournaments like this showcase our Canadian athletes against the world’s best competition in front of enthusiastic Canadian fans, especially our young people who are inspired by the tremendous example of athleticism and passion. During the Year of Sport in Canada and as we prepare to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the TO2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games, we will continue to celebrate events like the Fed Cup, the sport of tennis, and our Canadian athletes and the role they play in helping to define our cultural fabric from coast to coast to coast.”
