For Immediate Release
February 3, 2015 – Burlington, Ont. – Public Works and Government Services Canada
Mike Wallace, Member of Parliament for Burlington, announced today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, that the Government of Canada has awarded a $9.4-million contract to The State Group Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario. Following a fair, open and transparent process, this contract was awarded to start a major construction project at the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge to replace key components of the bridge lift system.
The four-lane bridge spans the Burlington Bay Canal, which connects Lake Ontario to the Port of Hamilton. The bridge is not only a highway link between Burlington and Hamilton for daily commuters, but its lift function allows both commercial marine and pleasure craft traffic to move freely between Lake Ontario and the Port of Hamilton.
This project underlines the Harper Government’s commitment to ensuring that important infrastructure continues to provide value to taxpayers while helping Canada’s economy. Investing in infrastructure like Burlington Canal Life Bridge will provide accessible transit options, create jobs and encourage economic growth.
Our Government’s support for public infrastructure has never been stronger. In fact, over the next decade we will invest $75 billion in public infrastructure from coast to coast. These unprecedented investments, the most significant in our country’s history, will help reduce commuting times for Canadian families, while enhancing our economic productivity and creating jobs and economic growth across Canada.
