Investment will help Fredericton company focus on European market

Smart Skin Technologies Inc. is moving forward with a marketing initiative for the European market, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada. The Fredericton-based company has been widely recognized for its leading edge pressure sensor technology.
The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for New Brunswick and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), joined Smart Skin Technologies Inc. officials today to make the announcement.
Among the activities the company will undertake is the establishment of a Vice-President for European Markets, as well as a sales office near Munich, Germany.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, is providing a repayable contribution of $293,250.

- Smart Skin Technologies was developed at the University of New Brunswick by Kumaran Thillainadarajah while he was a computer engineering student.
- The company has developed and commercialized a pressure-sensitive skin technology that is aimed at a variety of applications ranging from industrial packaging lines to the development of sporting equipment.
- Smart Skin Technologies provides a state-of-the-art system for measuring line pressure and 3D orientation in glass, can, PET, and many secondary and tertiary packaging lines. By embedding the Quantifeel™ sensor into a line, the dynamic effect of pressure and movement exerted on the device can be observed in real-time and analyzed to understand the effect operational parameters have on line performance, improving efficiency, reducing wastage and minimizing downtime.
- The historic Canada-EU Trade Agreement will open new markets throughout the EU for Canadian exporters and will generate significant benefits for all Canadians. This agreement has the potential to create 80,000 new Canadian jobs.
