The Government of Canada provided excellent news today to numerous maple syrup producers in the Madawaska-Restigouche region by announcing investments totaling nearly $1.4 million toward seven maple syrup industry projects.
The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and Member of Parliament for Madawaska-Restigouche, joined maple syrup industry officials to make the announcement today.
The government support will help cover a variety of upgrades, in particular setting up electric transmission lines to more remote operations, equipment purchases, renovations, expansions and modernizations.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program (BDP), is contributing $ 1,371,775 toward the seven projects located in Northern New Brunswick.

- Over 200 producers in the province make up the New Brunswick maple industry
- During sugar season, the New Brunswick maple syrup industry creates approximately 2300 full time seasonal jobs.

- The New Brunswick maple syrup industry produces 1.8 million kilograms of syrup every year which is sold in the province and on the global stage.
