February 13, 2015 - The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), today announced that she will attend the inauguration of Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović as president of Croatia on February 15, 2015. Ms. Grabar-Kitarović will become the first female Croatian president.
“Croatia is a like-minded partner for Canada and a valued NATO ally,” said Minister Yelich. “We look forward to working together with Croatia toward our shared goals of security, prosperity and democracy in the world. Canada will continue working with like-minded partners and NATO allies, such as Croatia, to speak out against clear and present threats to international security, as our government has done in the case of Russian aggression against Ukraine.”
Canada is proud to be home to a large and dynamic Croatian-Canadian community, which plays a critical role in advancing economic, cultural, social and political cooperation between the two countries.
“Canada looks forward to further strengthening trade and investment ties with Croatia,” said Minister Yelich. “The benefits of the Canada-European Union trade agreement are clear for Canada and the EU, including Croatia: it will create more jobs and opportunities, leading to long-term prosperity and growth.”
