Ottawa, February 19, 2015 – Minister for Multiculturalism Jason Kenney, Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander and Minister of State (Multiculturalism) Tim Uppal issued the following statement to mark the celebration of the Lunar New Year:
“Today, Canadians of Asian heritage will gather with family, friends and their communities to celebrate the start of a bright and promising new year.
“Whether it’s known as Chinese New Year, Tết to Vietnamese Canadians, or Seollal to Korean Canadians, the Lunar New Year is a time of celebration and looking hopefully to the future.
“Each year is dedicated to a specific animal, and this year we enter the Year of the Sheep, also referred to as the Year of the Goat or Ram.
“On behalf of the Government of Canada, we offer our heartfelt best wishes to everyone celebrating the Lunar New Year, which we hope will bring you and your families health, happiness and success.”
