Government of Canada provides funding for theatre series
February 20, 2015 – Saint John, New Brunswick – Department of Canadian Heritage
The Saint John Theatre Company will present its popular theatre program the Canadian Stage Series in 2015 and 2016, thanks in part to financial support from the Government of Canada.
The theatre company received an investment of $12,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund to offer audiences a series of professional theatre performances at the BMO Theatre from October 2015 to June 2016.
Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament (Saint John), announced this funding today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
The Canadian Stage Series offers audiences smaller, more intimate and challenging theatre pieces based mainly on works from Atlantic Canada.
“Our Government is pleased to partner with organizations such as the Saint John Theatre Company, which provide Canadians with access to diverse artistic experiences right in their own communities. We know that such cultural opportunities contribute to the quality of life and the economy of a community.”
—The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
“For people who live in and visit southern New Brunswick, the Saint John Theatre is a vital cultural space to experience professional live theatre. The Saint John Theatre Company also does great community outreach work that nurtures an appreciation of the arts.”
—Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament (Saint John)
“The Canadian Stages Series is a vital link between our relatively isolated southern New Brunswick theatre eco-system and the many diverse, challenging and interesting theatre projects that tour our country. Canadian Heritage funding is crucial in helping our company expand audiences at the BMO Studio Theatre while broadening the viewing experiences for our theatre practitioners in this region of the province.”
