PARIS, FRANCE — The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls and Minister of National Defence, today issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer and reiterate our deepest condolences to the people of France following the despicable terrorist attacks last month that took the lives of 17 innocent people. Canada is committed to France, one of our oldest and most important allies. We will stand together and refuse to be intimidated by those who threaten our shared values of freedom of speech, peace and democracy.”
“I was shocked and saddened by these cowardly attacks and my thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and their families and all French people during this difficult time. As I visited the sites today to pay my respects, I was reminded that no country is immune to the radical jihad we have seen here, in Canada and elsewhere around the world.”
“As Minister of National Defence I can assure you that our Canadian Armed Forces remain undeterred in their mission to protect these ideals of freedom and democracy, as we work with you and our other allies in the fight against terrorism and those terrorists who carried out these senseless attacks against the innocent citizens of your great nation.”
