Ottawa, Ontario - 23 February 2015
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating the Canadian winners at the 87th Academy Awards:
“I would like to congratulate fellow Canadians Craig Mann and Chris Williams who won Oscars this evening for Best Sound Mixing for Whiplash, and Best Animated Feature Film for Big Hero 6, respectively.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment and the entire country is extremely proud.
“I would also like to congratulate Robert Bridson and Ben Cole, who received Technical Achievement Award certificates, and André de Winter who received an Academy Plaque for the Scientific and Engineering Award at the Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation on Saturday, February 7, in Beverly Hills.
“Kudos as well go to all Canadians nominated for Oscars and related awards.
“This kind of recognition for Canadians in the entertainment business is indicative of the immense pool of talent in our country, talent that is supported through the National Film Board and Telefilm Canada, as well as through programs such as the Filmmaker Assistance Program.
“Once again, congratulations to all award winners and nominees.”
