Today’s announcement of $500,000 in additional humanitarian assistance funding is supporting the work of World Vision Canada in responding to the humanitarian impact of Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu.
These efforts include:
- providing transitional shelter kits to 500 households;
- delivering technical training in “build-back better” shelter techniques to targeted households;
- distributing emergency education kits to 100 schools (reaching 4,000 cyclone-affected children); and
- delivering emergency teaching kits to 100 teachers.
This contribution is in addition to the $160,000 already provided to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to meet immediate critical needs, bringing Canada’s total contribution to date to $660,000 in response to Cyclone Pam.
Canada helps save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain the dignity of people affected by conflict, natural disasters and situations of food insecurity requiring a humanitarian response in developing countries by supporting the appropriate, timely, and effective response of international and Canadian humanitarian organizations.
