The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today offered Canada’s congratulations to Luis Almagro and Néstor Méndez on their election as secretary general and assistant secretary general, respectively, of the Organization of American States (OAS).
“I look forward to working with Secretary General Almagro and Assistant Secretary General Méndez in advancing mutual priorities, such as safeguarding and promoting freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, and moving forward the OAS reform and modernization agenda.
“This year, we are celebrating 25 years of Canadian membership in the OAS. The OAS is a key channel for cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean partners on strengthening security and democracy in the hemisphere.”
