Revitalized defence infrastructure across Canada will provide the Canadian Armed Forces with the facilities they need to provide support to troops and military families, to support the Reserve forces, to support operations home and abroad, and to ensure the health and safety of our men and women in uniform.
At 17 Wing Winnipeg, a $1 million investment in military housing, specifically the repair and renovation of singles quarters on the base, will provide the men and women of the Royal Canadian Air Force with refurbished, and efficient accommodations. The singles quarters at the Wing are comprised of 53 rooms and are occupied by military members. The intent is to perform energy efficient retrofits to heating and ventilation systems, which will allow for increased efficiency and lower maintenance costs.
The hangars at 17 Wing require a number of repairs and parts replacement. This project is valued at $5.5 million.
The project to improve road and infrastructure works will include sewer, water and electrical distribution improvements, as well as repaving of roadways themselves once underground work is completed. This project is required to replace infrastructure where necessary, and will aid in reducing operating and maintenance costs while increasing overall reliability of critical utilities at the Wing. This project is valued at $6.6 million.
Overall project value (excluding GST): approximately $13.1 million.
