Joe Friday has been serving as interim Public Sector Integrity Commissioner since January 1, 2015.
He began his career in the Public Service in 1992 as Legal Counsel to the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. From 1994 to 2001, he served as Legal Counsel and then as Acting General Counsel, Dispute Resolution Services, with the Department of Justice. In 2001, he took on the role of National Coordinator, Legal Excellence Program, at the Department of Justice, a position he held until 2007, and then General Counsel, Dispute Prevention and Resolution Services. He assumed the role of General Counsel, Office of the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner in 2008, and then Deputy Commissioner in 2011. Prior to joining the public service, Mr. Friday was a law student with McCarthy-Tétrault, LLP, and later with Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt, LLP. After being called to the Bar of Ontario in 1990, he practiced law as an Associate Lawyer with Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt, LLP. Before beginning his law career, he was a media analyst with Mediaday Inc.
Mr. Friday holds an Honours Bachelor of Journalism from CarletonUniversity and a LL.B. from the University of Ottawa.
