Supporting Canadian companies in the dynamic Asia-Pacific region is a priority to create jobs and prosperity in every region of Canada.
March 19, 2015 - Bangkok, Thailand - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, today kicked off a two-day trade mission to boost Canada’s export and investment partnerships with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Philippines, as chair of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2015.
Together with ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh, Minister Fast joined more than 200 business leaders to participate in the second Canada-ASEAN Business Forum.
The Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) was launched by Minister Fast in August 2012 to grow private-sector cooperation between Canadian and Southeast Asian businesses.
Minister Fast is joined by officials from Export Development Canada, giving Canadian companies at the CABC the opportunity to learn about the tools and support available to help them succeed in the global market.
Minister Fast will continue his mission in Manila, Philippines, where he will meet with his Filipino counterparts, including Gregory Domingo, Secretary of Trade and Industry. The Philippines is a priority country under Canada’s Global Markets Action Plan. As chair of APEC for 2015, the Philippines shares Canada’s commitment to fostering the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in the global economy.
