March 28, 2015 - Ottawa, Ontario - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:
“Canada condemns the attacks targeting the Makka al-Mukarama hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia.
“In this latest in a series of attacks in Mogadishu, at least 20 people were killed, including Yusuf Bari Bari, Somalia’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva. These attacks demonstrate al-Shabaab’s blatant disregard for human life. Canada remains committed to strengthening regional security and fighting the threat of terrorism at home and abroad.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I express my most sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed and wish a swift and full recovery to the injured.
“Canada stands with the Somali people in their efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous Somalia.”
