March 1, 2015 - Ottawa, Ontario - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that he will be travelling to Paris to meet with Laurent Fabius, France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development. The ministers will discuss a range of international issues, including the crisis in Ukraine, the fight against the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and combatting global terrorism. In addition, they will discuss the state of the world economy and opportunities for growth, trade and jobs following Canada’s recent trade agreement with Europe.
Minister Nicholson will also visit the Great Synagogue of Paris. Built by Paris’ chief architect, Alfred-Philibert Aldrophe, the synagogue provided Parisian Jews with a place of worship that reflected the community’s tremendous demographic, economic and cultural development at the end of the 19th century.
This trip will be Minister Nicholson’s first visit abroad as minister of foreign affairs and is part of concerted efforts by both Canada and France to further strengthen the deep and long-standing bond between the two countries.
