The Honourable Erin O’Toole, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today announced that Christopher J. McNeil will join the Veterans Review and Appeal Board, which provides Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) members, and their families, with an independent avenue of appeal for disability benefits decisions made by Veterans Affairs Canada.
Mr. McNeil, of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, spent more than 30 years serving with the Halifax Regional Police as staff sergeant, superintendent and deputy chief of Police before retiring in 2013. During his more than 10 years as second in command of the police force, Mr. McNeil was responsible for day-to-day operations to ensure safety and peace and order in the community. In the course of his policing career, he also acted as a workplace rights coordinator and adjudicator in discipline matters. Mr. McNeil holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s University and a Bachelor of Law from Dalhousie Law School, and has worked as a solicitor for the Nova Scotia Department of Justice.
