March 19, 2015 – Clyde River, Nunavut – Infrastructure Canada
Today representatives from three levels of government joined with community members to celebrate the official opening of the new Clyde River hamlet office.
The new office, which houses the Hamlet council chambers and a supporting translation booth, also features a large reception area and a kitchenette that can be used to host community gatherings. This modern facility is large enough to allow all the Hamlet staff to work under one roof, making services more accessible for residents while also increasing operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The facility also incorporates office space for community organizations such as economic development officers and search and rescue staff, and is home to the community radio station. The building is also equipped with an emergency power generator in case of electricity outages.
"Our Government's support for public infrastructure has never been stronger. We will continue to work with the Government of Nunavut to support projects that support the well-being and safety of our communities. This project is important for the community of Clyde River and initiatives such as it are creating jobs, promoting growth, and building strong, and prosperous communities across the North."
- The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, Minister for the Arctic Council, Regional Minister for the North and Member of Parliament for Nunavut
"The new hamlet office will be a centre of activity for the whole community; a place where residents can participate in local governance, create new economic development opportunities and contribute to community initiatives. This project is another example of how the Government of Nunavut supports building strong, self-reliant communities across the territory."
