Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the nomination of Joe Friday as the next Public Sector Integrity Commissioner.
Mr. Friday has been serving as interim Public Sector Integrity Commissioner since January 1, 2015. He joined the Office of the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner in 2008 as General Counsel and in 2011 took on the role of Deputy Commissioner. Since joining the Public Service in 1992, Mr. Friday has held positions of increasing scope, complexity and responsibility, including Senior National Coordinator, Legal Excellence Program, and later General Counsel, Dispute Resolution Services, with the Department of Justice. Mr. Friday obtained an Honours Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University and an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa. He has been a member of the Ontario Bar since 1990.
As set out in the Public Servants Disclosure Protection Act, this appointment must be approved by resolution of the Senate and House of Commons. In addition, pursuant to House of Commons Standing Order 111.1, the Government will be tabling this nomination for referral to the appropriate Standing Committee.
