Update on the New Bridge for the St. Lawrence Corridor Project
March 6, 2015 – Montreal, Quebec – Infrastructure Canada
In order to allow for construction of the new bridge for the St. Lawrence corridor (NBLSC), certain residential, commercial and public properties must be acquired. The Government of Canada is pleased to announce that the 14 affected residential properties have all been acquired by mutual agreement.
The Government of Canada is also hoping to finalize agreements for acquisition of the remaining public and commercial properties required for the project.
In the case of land owned by the City of Montréal, given the accelerated timelines for this project, the City and the Government of Canada agree that expropriation may be the most efficient means of acquiring the 73 properties belonging to the City in order to ensure that the new bridge can be in service by 2018.
A notice of intention to expropriate, detailing all properties potentially subject to expropriation in relation to NBLSC, will be published in the March 7, 2015 edition of the Canada Gazette.
Three consortia, Signature on the St. Lawrence Group, Saint-Laurent Alliance and St. Lawrence New Bridge Partnership, submitted their technical proposals on February 11, 2015, following the request for proposals launched in July 2014. The deadline for the submission of financial proposals is April 1, 2015.
The name of the selected proponent will be announced in late April and construction on the new bridge should begin in the summer.
