Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke today with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi of Iraq.
Prime Minister al-Abadi offered his sincere condolences on the death of Sergeant Andrew Joseph Doiron, killed in a friendly fire incident in northern Iraq. He also expressed his best wishes for a speedy recovery of the three injured Special Operations Forces members. Prime Minister al-Abadi expressed his deep gratitude for Canada’s steadfast support to Iraq in its fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Prime Minister Harper highlighted the critical role played by the Canadian Armed Forces in Iraq. He reiterated Canada’s continued commitment to assisting the Iraqi government and to supporting the efforts of the international coalition against ISIL.
