Today, I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend and colleague, Dr. Cy Frank. My heart goes out to Cy's family, friends and colleagues who will surely miss him.
Cy was a remarkable person and great contributor to the direction and future of healthcare innovation in Canada. I am honoured to have worked with such a forward thinking, compassionate and visionary leader.
Recently, I named Cy to an Advisory Panel on Healthcare Innovation. Along with other notable Canadians on the Panel, Cy was working around the clock to find promising new ideas to improve our healthcare system. This was a challenge he took on with great enthusiasm, selflessly donating his time and wealth of knowledge for the benefit of all Canadians.
Cy served as the President and CEO at Alberta Innovates Health Solutions, contributed to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) strategy on patient oriented research, and became the first Scientific Director of the Institute Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA).
Cy, thank you for your immeasurable contributions to Alberta and all of Canada. You have helped transform and innovate our healthcare system for the benefit of all Canadians for generations to come. You will be greatly missed.
