March 31, 2015 - I would like to congratulate Adama Ouane, who was appointed monday as the Administrator of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) by the Secretary General of La Francophonie, Her Excellency Michaëlle Jean. Mr. Ouane will officially begin his four-year mandate on April 1, 2015.
Canada is looking forward to working with Mr. Ouane and Ms. Jean to promote the values and missions of La Francophonie in order to help build a fairer, more prosperous and more peaceful world.
In the coming months and years, we will collaborate, notably in implementing the economic strategy for La Francophonie, which will give us the opportunity to strengthen our ties with other Francophonie countries in the areas of trade, investment and development. Sustainable economic development is what drives real social and human development, which will help to combat poverty.
I would also like to thank Clément Duhaime, who has been the Administrator of the IOF since January 2006, for his remarkable contributions.
More than ever, Canada continues to play a leadership role within La Francophonie, a modern, credible and effective organization that is influential around the world.
