A growing number of Canadians rely on Natural Health Products (NHPs) to maintain and improve their health and the Natural Health Products Regulations support their decision by helping ensure the NHPs for sale in Canada are safe and appropriately labelled for their approved uses.
The products that fall under the NHP Regulations are generally low-risk products that are meant to be used by the individual to self-treat minor, non-serious conditions. Health Canada continuously evaluates its regulatory frameworks for all health products to ensure that they meet Canadians' expectations for product safety and their needs for access to a variety of treatment options.
For the two specific Nighton products referenced by CBC Marketplace, these products are required to be labelled with the warning statement "If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a health care practitioner."
As with Nighton, Health Canada encourages consumers to read the label in full and to consult a health care practitioner if they have questions or if the symptoms persist. When a product's labelling is not in compliance with what has been approved, Health Canada takes the necessary steps to address the situation.
With respect to Nighton's ingredients, they are found within recognised sources of evidence for homeopathic products.
