Judo Canada receives Government of Canada funding to host the best judo athletes from across the Americas
April 24, 2015 – Edmonton – Department of Canadian Heritage
The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), today announced the Government of Canada is providing $120,000 to Judo Canada through Sport Canada’s Hosting Program for the 2015 Pan American Judo Championships (Individual, Kata and Team) in Edmonton from April 24 to 26.
“We are pleased to support Judo Canada in hosting the 2015 Pan American Judo Championships. This event will provide our top Canadian athletes with an opportunity to face many of the same athletes they will compete against for podium spots in only a few months’ time at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games. This is a huge advantage for our team and why our support for this event is so important. During the Year of Sport in Canada, we celebrate sport, our athletes and the role they play in helping define our identity as a leading sport nation.”

Thanks to this financial support, we can welcome the Americas for the 2015 Pan American Judo Championships in Edmonton. With delegates from 31 countries, this Olympic qualification event provides our Canadian athletes with the opportunity to compete on home soil against some of the world’s best athletes.”
